Sadhu Boards with 8 mm Nail Spacing
8 mm (0.31 in) is the distance between the tips of two neighbouring nails — not the thickness of the board, and not the length of the nails. It is the closest spacing we make, which means more nails sit under your foot and your body weight spreads across more contact points. Less pressure on each individual point, gentler sensation. That is why 8 mm is the beginner spacing.
Who should start at 8 mm
- Anyone who has never stood on a nail board before
- People with sensitive feet or a low pain tolerance
- Anyone buying a Sadhu board as a gift, when you don't know the recipient's level
- Practitioners who want the board mainly for acupressure foot stimulation rather than as a mental challenge
What the first session actually feels like
Sharp for the first few seconds, then it changes. Most people describe warmth and a tingling that spreads through the sole once the breathing settles. Almost everyone manages to stand on an 8 mm board on their first day, at least in socks.
What it should not feel like is a single stabbing point. If it does, your weight is landing unevenly — step off, reposition, and put the weight through your heels first.
How 8 mm compares
| Spacing |
Level |
Sensation |
| 8 mm (0.31 in) |
Beginner |
The gentlest. Weight spread across the most contact points. |
| 10 mm (0.39 in) |
Most popular |
Noticeably stronger. The level most practitioners settle on. |
| 12 mm (0.47 in) |
Advanced |
Fewest contact points, most intense. |
If you are hesitating between 8 and 10 mm, take 8 mm. A board you stand on every morning is worth more than a board that is too intense to use twice a week.
Aluminum or copper at 8 mm
At the same spacing the physical sensation is close to identical — the pressure comes from the geometry, not the metal. What differs is weight, feel and price. Aluminum nails are lighter and more affordable. Copper nails are heavier, warm to body temperature faster underfoot, and are naturally antimicrobial.
What every 8 mm board includes
- Two interlocking boards — one per foot — on ECO birch plywood with a 3-layer glossy varnish
- Nails set in the Hexagon / Flower of Life pattern, spaced equally in every direction
- Velvet or textile storage case, aroma sticks with a holder, gift-ready box
- Free shipping to the US, Canada, Japan and Europe — 1–4 days — and a 30-day return window
Your first week on an 8 mm board
-
Days 1–2. Socks on, near a wall or chair. Step down heels first, then lower the whole foot. 10–30 seconds.
-
Days 3–5. Still in socks, build to a minute. Breathe slowly — holding your breath is what makes it unbearable.
-
Day 6 onward. Try barefoot for a few seconds, then return to socks. Add a little time each day.
Questions about 8 mm boards
Is 8 mm too easy if I'm athletic? Fitness has little to do with it — the limiting factor is the skin on your soles and your tolerance for a novel sensation, not leg strength. Athletic beginners still start at 8 mm.
Will I outgrow it? Many practitioners stay at 8 mm for years and simply stand longer. Others move to 10 mm after a few months. Both are normal.
Can two people share one board? Yes. The boards fit feet up to roughly US M13 / EU 47, and there is nothing to adjust between users — just wipe the nails down.
